16-19 Bursary (previously known as EMA – Education Maintenance Allowance)

Written by Sam Crew on 05/09/2011 – 4:14 pm -

The regulations and funding around the financial support given to students at Post 16 has changed dramatically.  In addition to significant reductions in the amount of financial support available to young people, schools are now responsible for the administration and distribution of the funding.  This is vastly different to EMA where the means testing was carried out at central Government offices.

This has meant that schools have had to wait for bursary funding figures from the Department for Education before being able to make decisions about how to means test and how to distribute the financial support in the fairest way.

The information we have so far can be found at: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/14To19/MoneyToLearn/16to19bursary/DG_066955

We will be formulating a fair and appropriate distribution strategy within the next fortnight and will be communicating the outcomes to students shortly afterwards.
