Attendance Information – Penalty Notices

As you will have seen in the Principal’s newsletter this week, the Academy is working closely with South Gloucestershire Council Education Welfare Service looking specifically at monitoring attendance.  Parents are already aware that the Academy does not sanction absence during term time unless through illness or to attend a medical appointment or for any other extenuating circumstances.  Reducing absence from school is a key priority of the government, the local authority and the Academy.  Penalty Notices have been introduced and the Academy will make a request that a Penalty Notice is issued by the local authority in cases where students have failed to attend school regularly and whose absence is unauthorised.  A copy of the full South Gloucestershire Council Penalty Notice leaflet is available here.
