Internationally renowned football World Cup Final referee, Howard Webb, visited John Cabot Academy on Thursday 13 January. Through a chance meeting with Charlie Hodge, Head of PE, at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards, Howard kindly agreed to visit John Cabot and talk to students. Howard talked to a range of students from Y8 – Y12 about his world cup experience, the importance of fair play in sport and he also talked to students who are considering a career in football refereeing and the opportunities available. Howard also passed around his world cup medal for students to see. Miss Hodge said, “This is an amazing opportunity for our students at John Cabot and I would like to thank Howard for taking the time out of his busy schedule to visit us. It is not often a school gets to host a visit from a sports personality of this stature so I feel sure our students will learn a great deal from this visit.”
