Principal’s Message
Thank you for spending some time looking through the website of John Cabot Academy. Whether you are reading through the website as a student, parent, prospective student or parent, previous student or a visitor I warmly welcome you to browse this site in order to catch something of what it means to be connected with John Cabot Academy.
I have been the Principal of John Cabot Academy since May 2008 . Having worked at John Cabot for 11 years I am committed to the type of secondary school experience we provide for our students and I wholeheartedly relish the challenge of leading John Cabot into the future.
As an Academy we are able to retain much of our independence and can make decisions for ourselves about the direction we wish to take. I am proud of our comprehensive intake and the rich cultural mix we all enjoy each day. Cabot is a lively place to be as it is full of motivated students who play a significant part in their own learning. Cabot is also full of dedicated members of staff who work tirelessly alongside the students to ensure that all students are safe, happy, fulfilled and challenged.
In Nov 2009 we were deemed by OfSTED to be an ‘Outstanding’ school, against the new inspection framework, with the leadership and management of John Cabot Academy structured around four main areas:
- Outstanding Student Care
- Outstanding Teaching and Learning
- Outstanding Curriculum
- Outstanding Student Achievement
We are passionate about providing an outstanding experience for our students and believe wholeheartedly that students should not only learn new knowledge and skills but should also understand why they are learning them. This is the reason why the Cabot strap line is Learners Inspiring Learning.
This is the fundamental ethos and culture of John Cabot Academy. Students have many opportunities to influence not only which programmes of study they embark upon but also how the learning and teaching is designed. I aspire towards the full realisation of students learning and being assessed at the time that is right for them. The first stage of this process is the introduction of vertical tutoring. With students being arranged into 4 tutoring communities we are discovering the benefits of grouping students with others outside of their age group. The next stage in this process is to work towards students learning alongside others at their same stage rather than necessarily their same age.
Our website is designed to help you gain a better understanding of the innovation and excitement that exists at John Cabot Academy everyday, however if you would to visit the Academy to learn more please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to meeting you.
