Mr Hall is going Commando for Charity
Written by Sam Crew on 03/05/2011 – 4:57 pm -James Hall, Assistant Principal at John Cabot Academy is going commando for charity. On the weekend of the 14/15 May he is joining 4 other friends to raise money for two great causes. On the Saturday he is competing in the Royal Marines 17km Endurance Challenge. This is the final stage of a marine’s training and the one they have to complete in order to graduate as a Royal Marine. It is a 17km cross country nightmare, through rivers, tunnels and lots and lots of mud.
If that was not enough, the next day he is jumping out of a plane at 13,000 feet. This is a higher jump than normal and provides a longer experience of freefall. Mr Hall says he is scared at the top of a ladder, so that should be fun.
He has set up two ‘Just Giving’ websites. The Royal Marines Charitable Fund supports troops and families, dealing with injuries and loss and also helps fund the Air Ambulance Service in the South West. The Rainbow Centre is a local charity that supports families affected by cancer and terminal illness. Details are:

To support Mr Hall in raising awareness and funds for both charities, John Cabot Academy is having a ‘Commando Charity Day’ this week, on Friday 6 May. Members of the armed services will be in school and a range of activities, raffles and sweet sales will be held throughout the day, during break and lunch times. We will also be participating in a national event on the same day where students and staff will be encouraged to wear sunglasses, for a donation of 50p towards a cancer charity.
Look out for more details and pictures from this week’s Charity Day in next week’s edition of the Principal’s Weekly newsletter.
